In high school, Jamie Harvey wanted to be a scientist. Then they discovered that science is a ruthless, cutthroat game and decided to be a humanities major instead. But once you fall in love with science, you can never truly lose that spark. So they decided to combine their passion for science and their journalism and sociology skills to produce “Modern Memetics,” a podcast about the scientific words and phrases that inhabit the public consciousness.

This installment is Part Two of a Three-Part series on Southern California indie/shoegaze band The Autumns.  Coming off the success of their first album, anticipation was high for follow-up LP.  The band's popularity was on the rise.  A dream pop icon surprises the band after discovering their demo and contacts them, creating an opportunity they never imagined.  The Autumns emerge with a new album amidst personnel and management changes.  Just when the journey seemed like easy sailing, the weather suddenly changed.  In this episode, former frontman Matthew Kelly recalls the recording and release of “In The Russet Gold of This Vain Hour”.  Matthew shares his views on the album and recalls the public reaction.  Meanwhile, narrator Michael A.C. shares his memories of seeing The Autumns in concert across Southern California.  Is this the moment where The Autumns break through the glass ceiling? Or is this the beginning of the end?
